Prada’s Household

Prada is still proving to be one of the best, innovative, and strong brands out there. This time again, they nailed it! Knitted jackets, dresses with beautiful designs and big full skirts were key items. Seventies looking models strolled down the catwalk in big dresses with the hem all the way over the knee, wearing thick knitted leg wear decorated with the finest details. With their hair in a thick bun on their heads and slip on shoes, or tweed looking boots they looked like the housewives you would trust, almost like perfect barbies. Amazing how they can show such a concept, in full detail, with wonderful materials, again!

Dsquared’s red&black vamp

Less sporty and preppy then we are used to from dean and den, but the catwalk models were true vamps. Slick back hair, leather leggings and big sunglasses gave the whole collection a eighties diva feeling. We’ve already seen this knee-booth, black leather rock and roll look for many seasons now i think, but still Dsquared is one of my favorites and they keep being innovative in a funny way. The over the top look and diva devilish look in the eyes of the models gives a humoristic atmosphere.

D&G presents knitted wool and fur ladies

Last night D&G presented their newest F/W2010 collection in Milan. Down the runway went snow princesses covered in Scandinavian knitted sweaters, cardigans and cute dresses, combined with big fur boots, socks and transparent blouses.

Jutka & Riska

Treasur Island. A beautiful shop, 'hidden' on a big street in Amsterdam. Many times I had spotted this shop and its fashionable yet vintage window from the tram when going home. Being two stops before mine, I really had to take the time to finally step on my bike and stop over to discover what was inside.
Jutka & Riska are two sisters who initiated this shop, which is like stepping into a world of (very fashionable, vintage and urban) barbie, with many treasures to be found. When you enter, you will see, that you want have everything and want to look everywhere. Jutka & Riska sell a wonderful combination of secondhand- and new brand clothing. Next to this, they also produce some garments themselves in the back of the shop, for example comfortable t-shirt dresses and stripes shirts with applications, and most important it is all AFFORDABLE! In every corner you can find a hidden necklace, look-a-like Hermes bag or an amazing vintage pump, so take your time for this amazing spot!

Jutka & Riska, Bilderdijkstraat 194 Amsterdam. Also in Haarlem and Antwerp.

The look of Tommy Hilfiger, or should I say the life of Tommy Hilfiger? The latest F/W 2010 collection of the brand does not express one particular style, trend or sense of expression, but more a lifestyle attached to the brand name. It is a collection I would want to have, all of it, and just wear it, in a leafy autumn park, or in front of a fire place. Layer over layer, vibrant colored skirts and pullovers combined with country side sweaters and lamy coats. And then of course the laced up knee boots, who are a combination between Timberland's and Minnetonka's. Say goodbye to the all mighty UGG and strap yourself up with these amazing fabulous boots next winter!

Calvin Klein, known for its great ‘basic’ white shirts, presented the F/W 2010 collection in New York yesterday. For the upcoming winter CK is going back to its core values and presented a beautiful modern and minimal look. This look, serene, sober, square yet feminine, has already been spotted before at the S/S 10 collection of Celine and now Calvin Klein gives it its own modern twist. Black and solid colored silhouettes, collarless coats, outspoken round and square shapes filled the catwalk with a sharp, feminine, sophisticated, and futuristic look.

Park Avenue life, this F/W there is a revival of the eighties as seen at the Oscar de la Renta show. Big hair poofy hair in wavy curls, eye shadow reaching into your eyebrows, golden chain necklaces, over-knee length skirts and coats with accents of red, fur, and vibrant prints. Oscar de la Renta sends his models down the runway as eighties Barbie dolls, and so remains his status of luxury, boldness, quality, and ladylike fashion designs. And not only Oscar but also Mulberry’s creative director Emma Hill seems to have had the same brain spin. With big hair, golden necklaces and eighties - no not trashy - looking dresses the models strutted down the catwalk, with of course the focus on the most beautiful bags in classic leather and animal prints, I say, enough new it-bags to be spotted for those gossip girls out there.

Icons. We look at each other, learn from each other and get inspired by the outside. By choosing your own hair color, make-up style and dress we can create our own identity. Depending on the people we love, our references to style and the icons we appreciate and respect we dress ourselves. There are certain standards, social, cultural and fashionable, but we do create our own identities. When reading that W's new cover model is going to be Megan Fox, I started asking myself; Would W succeed, or even want, to portray Megan different then the standard expected? Different from the sex beast, the incredible icon and erotic woman she is? And by looking at the cover, is this her? Or her preferred identity?

This winter you are a sexy, powerful, sophisticated and a seventies inspired school girl. Marc Jacobs presented his F/W 2010 collection in New York, and once again it amazed, returning from a disco, new wave eighties and jungle inspired collections for his own label and Louis Vuitton's, next fall it is all minimalistic, sophistication, raw, feminine and serenity at Marc Jacobs. Oh, and don't forget to buy socks for your shoes and some Tavi glasses.

Fashion Week is entertainment. It is not only exciting because of the millions of fashion models, high heels, short skirts, leather jackets, it-girls and street photographers, but it all actually started because of the presentation of new collections by phenomenal design houses. Yves Saint Laurent, Balmain, Coco Chanel and the house of Hermes. Everyone tries their freaking best to impress the audience, to show their view on the world, the past, the now and the future. And after a great shock this week, we all stood still again and thought of this hysterical circus called Fashion Week.

"The British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead at the age of 40 in his London home. His body was discovered at the property in Green Street, central London. Alexandra Shulman, the editor of British Vogue, said McQueen had influenced a whole generation of designers. "His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs," she said. "At one level he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashion shows that mixed design, technology and performance and on another he was a modern-day genius whose gothic aesthetic was adopted by women the world over. His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't."(11/2 Gaurdian.co.uk)
